Dr. Christine Mbonyingingo, Chairperson Board of Directors
Dr. Christine Mbonyingingo is from Burundi and currently the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Eastern African Sub-Regional Support Initiative (EASSI). She holds a PhD degree in English and Anglo-Saxon Language and civilizations and has undertaken several trainings in gender, HIV and human rights. Dr. Christine Mbonyingingo has more than 20 years of training and research as a university professor and also served the United Nations for 14 years in UNFPA, UN Women and UNAIDS. She is a bilingual, speaking French, English and Italian. Her professional career is rooted in academic training and research to mentor young teachers and boost research in post-colonial literature on the one hand, the social mobilization and political advocacy to empower the community leaders for human rights and equity in an environment of varied challenges which undermine development on the other hand. She has had training in policy and strategy development; non-violent communication and conflict resolution; gender mainstreaming in policies and programmes; leadership, institutional Development and capacity building in gender, HIV and Human rights, partnership and social mobilization and resources mobilization.
