SIDA
Sida works according to directives of the Swedish Parliament and Government to reduce poverty in the world. The overall goal of Swedish development cooperation is to contribute to making it possible for poor people to improve their living conditions. Sida is organized in nine departments.
It is the responsibility of each country to adopt its own strategies for economic development and for combating poverty. This strategy forms the basis for the cooperation strategy that Sweden and respective countries or regions form together.
Sida is currently funding EASSI's campaign for an East African Protocol on Gender Equality, the objective of contributing towards gender equality, equity and sustainable development in the EAC. The overall purpose of the proposed EAC Gender Protocol is to advance gender equality across the 5 EAC Partner States in the economic, political, social and cultural spheres, for the benefit of women and men by consolidating into one legally binding document,
the various instruments on gender equality to which the EAC Partner States are party or signatory at the continental and international levels.
