In July 2008, EASSI staff, partners, board and stakeholders met for a whole week to deliberate on EASSI's next strategic move. The Strategic plan was a result of the end term evaluation. Under the new direction, there are new areas whose relevance was realized from various fora and recent events in the women's movement and also global and national issues.
The following themes will be the focus for 2008.

Women's Rights and Gender Equality
One major activity under this area is - Lobbying for the East African Declaration on Gender equality (EADGE) (bringing together all legally binding international commitments to gender equality (BPFA, CEDAW, the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and People's Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa and the MDGs) into one regional legal instrument, through research and analysis, lobbying and advocacy, and empowerment of women.
Women's Reproductive Health and Sexual rights
- Key activities include :
- Tracking of national Budget and Expenditure for women's reproductive health and sexual rights
- Advocate/Lobby for gender sensitive policies to protect the rights of women and children;
- Widely share tracked information at various foras in the region.
