It was during this time that EAssI led a Regional women's Peace Initiative in Nairobi to mediate. They also raised awareness over the escalating violence impacted on the women and children from the violence. EAssI’s focal point in Kenya is Caucus for women in Leadership http://www.kwpcaucus.org/, and the member organisation is women's Rights Awareness Programme (wRAP). EAssI's board member from Kenya is Deborah Okumu. This strategic partnership has led to many successes in the women’s movement in the region. Amongst the more recent was the women's Peace initiative held in Nairobi in 2008 after the post-eledtion violence in Kenya. EAsSI, withmembers from the region, deliberated on forging a concreet way forward to mediate durign the crisis. Many atrocities were felt in the region and many were left untold and unheard. The burden of conflict on women and girls is almost always left for the women to bear in silence. EAssI , together with partners from the region, was able to highlight many of the victims' plight dunng this time and with the mediation team, raise more awareness on the impact of the crisis.
