The East African Declaration on Gender Equality (EADGE) is an initiative of the Eastern African Sub-Regional Support Initiative for the Advancement of women (EASSI) to transform gender relations as a way of improving women's rights in response to a call from Sida's 'Regional Democracy and Human Rights focused Initiatives Programme in the Greater East African Region.

KAMPALA, Feb 17, 2010 (IPS) - As the East Africa Community (EAC) gradually moves towards a political confederation, women’s rights groups from the five member states are pushing for an East African Protocol on Gender and Development to bridge the gender gaps within the integration process.
