Message from the EASSI

EASSI is a sub-regional civil society organization established in 1996 to facilitate systematic follow up of the African and Beijing Platforms for Action emanating from the Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing China in 1995.EASSI’S membership comprises in­dividuals, NGOs, coalitions and networks committed to the advancement of women. EASSI carries out its mandate primarily through monitoring and evaluating the implementation of these commitments in eight Eastern African countries namely, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania and Uganda.

  • SOMALI TROOPS OUT OF FONTROL

     Somali government troops are out of control, as are their Ethiopian allies and other armed groups says human right's group Amnesty International. It says the situation is "dire" in central and southern Somalia, with civilians completely at the mercy of armed groups on all sides.

    Rwanda's joint parliametary session has elected 9 legislators who will represent it at the EALA. 5 of the elected members are women. Rwanda is the EAC member state with the highest number of women elected to the EALA.
